Pocock Youth Rowing Community Giving Manager

Seattle, WA

Pocock Youth Rowing (PYR), a program of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation, provides year-round competitive rowing opportunities for 7th–12th grade athletes at the George Pocock Memorial Rowing Center in Seattle. Through training, competition, teamwork, and long-term athlete development, PYR helps young people build confidence, resilience, leadership, and community both on and off the water. While GPRF serves young people across the region through multiple programs and initiatives, this role is specifically focused on supporting the Pocock Youth Rowing program and community.

This is a part-time, hourly position reporting directly to the Pocock Youth Rowing Program Director. The role averages approximately 25 hours per week over the course of the year, with schedules varying based on the PYR seasonal calendar, events, and program needs. Evening and occasional weekend hours are required in support of fundraising and community events.

As a member of both the GPRF Development Team and the PYR program team, this role works closely with the PYR Program Director, Communications and Grants Director, and Development Manager to strengthen community engagement and fundraising efforts in support of PYR. Primary responsibilities include cultivating and stewarding relationships with current families, alumni families, alumni, and supporters to grow scholarship and equipment funding, increase donor retention, and expand community-based fundraising revenue. This role will also help plan and execute events and campaigns as part of a collaborative and mission-driven development team.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five to seven years of experience in fundraising.

  • Must live in the Greater Seattle area.

  • Experience with asking individuals for donations and securing multi year gifts, as well as experience with moves management.

  • Experience in working with donor databases and using fundraising software.

  • Experience managing events from planning through execution, follow-up, and evaluation, with the ability to improve processes, logistics, and outcomes year over year.

  • Proven track record of planning and initiating successful fundraising strategies, events, and annual giving and individual campaigns.

  • Enthusiastic about meeting with and calling constituents, donors, and community members to thank and engage with them.

  • Outstanding attention to detail, as every email, phone call, and individual interaction this person has will be representing the GPRF.

  • High level of organization and ability to manage internal systems that enable efficiency and execution across our team.  

  • High level of discretion and interpersonal awareness, with the ability to connect thoughtfully with donors, families, and community members in both formal and informal settings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • We are looking for leadership from this person in four areas:

    • Working with the Parent Leadership Team, create and nurture a sense of community and belonging with our parents and team supporters. This will require cultivating relationships with current parents, athletes, coaches and alumni.

    • Lead the fundraising efforts and event preparation for the Pocock Youth Rowing (PYR) Program, including two events: The Boats and Blades Annual Dinner & The Power Hour Erg Relay. Alumni and current athletes (via Power Hour and peer-to-peer fundraising) to secure funding in support of program goals. 

    • Lead the fundraising efforts and steward relationships with alumni and their families.  Create points of engagement for alumni and their families to connect with one another and the PYR program. Coordinate quarterly communications (including PYR LinkedIn Alumni page), host gatherings and execute alumni giving campaigns.  

    • Broaden donor awareness and engagement by effectively communicating the Foundation’s multi-disciplinary reach. This includes ensuring that key stakeholders understand the synergy between the PYR program and our broader regional programs, initiatives and leadership. 

  • In conjunction with the Development Team (we own this work as a team), you will be asked to contribute to and support the following: 

    • Implement and assess the overall donor relations strategy that supports the short- and long-term fundraising goals.

    • Develop strategies to ensure donors are appreciated by way of meetings, events, communications, mailings, and other efforts.

    • Attend fundraising events and other stewardship gatherings throughout the year.

    • Provide data and narrative content for annual appeals, reports, mailings, our website, social media and individual donor communications.

    • Contribute to the team’s effort to promote our identity, capture impact, and create a compelling case for support.

    • Contribute to annual fundraising goals and strategies.

  • Over time there is room in this role to grow and take on projects like: 

    • A capital campaign for boathouse improvements and growing our building reserve.

    • Growing athletes and parent alumni events, gatherings and campaigns.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color, to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants.

  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on under-represented communities, either through lived experience and/or training and education.

  • Commitment to advancing justice and equity in sport with a passion for community building.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and react positively to change and conflict resolution. 

  • Ability to speak fluently in more than one language, preferably Spanish.

COMPENSATION: $34 - 38.50/hour , approximately 20-30 hours per week

BENEFITS:  Flexible work hours. This role is required to be located in Seattle, but it is a hybrid environment and since this role requires meeting with people in person, they will be in the office irregularly. Cell Phone reimbursement. You will be reimbursed through our semi-monthly payroll.
