My kid has spent a lot of time on the water, but never rowed, do they still need to take a Learn to Row class?

Yes, all new rowers need to take a Learn to Row class before joining their age group.

When does PYR offer programs?

PYR offers programs year round. Our most competitive season is spring, followed by fall. We also offer winter conditioning and summer camps.

Where do I get a float test done?

Float tests can be completed in any body of water that has a certified lifeguard. Public pools, private pools, lakes etc. Just print the form and take it to the lifeguard on duty, they will then be able to administer the test.

What should my kid wear/bring to practice?

Comfortable pants/leggings with some stretch. Not sure? Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Then, bend your legs to pull your feet close to where you are sitting and your knees up toward your chin, all while keeping your feet on the floor. If your pants do not interfere with this movement, you are good to go! Avoid baggy basketball-style shorts. Baggy shorts can get caught in the rolling wheels of the rowing seat.

Bring layers! We will do workouts indoors and outdoors so be prepared for the Seattle weather.

Rain gear. If we are going on the water, we will row rain or shine!

Shoes + Socks: closed-toed shoes for on-land activities. Warm socks for when we are in the boat.

A hat. Baseball hats help if it is raining and beanies are great for extra cold days.

A water bottle. Hydration is key!

An extra pair of socks or layers. In the event of rainy weather, your clothing may get wet on the water! Having a dry change of clothes to change into when we get back on land is never a bad idea!

Do boys and girls practice together?

Yes! All teams and practices are coed.
