  • Helen Tilghman

    Youth Program Manager & Head Coach

    Helen entered the rowing world in 2003 at Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center where she competed as a junior athlete for five years. Her time on Lake Washington continued when she attended the University of Washington, competing for the Huskies from 2008 until 2012. After completing her Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Helen continued with UW to earn her Masters in Education in the Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership Program. Helen spent that year as an assistant coach with Seattle University's inaugural varsity women's rowing team.

    Helen left Seattle to continue serving in the collegiate coaching ranks at the University of Dayton and Michigan State University. In 2016, she decided to return to Seattle and began as the head coach of the Mt. Baker varsity women. In 2017 Helen added the position of Director of Rowing at Mt. Baker, serving as the first in that position.

    When she is not at the boathouse, Helen enjoys spending time with friends in the great PNW outdoors, experimenting in the kitchen, and playing with her dog Finn.

  • Mia Luna

    Programs Coordinator & Administrative Assistant

    Growing up in Sammamish, WA, Mia got into rowing begrudgingly after her dad signed her up for a Learn to Row summer camp at Sammamish Rowing Association in 2013. She has loved being on the water ever since and was a part of the UW Women's Rowing team for five years. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Food Systems, Nutrition and Health and Medical Anthropology in 2022.

    During her 5th year she took a course from Sara Lopez that ignited a passion for sports based youth development. This led her to take up an internship with Upower before applying as a Camp Lucy VISTA through Up2Us Sports. She is excited to continue with the GPRF in her new role as Programs Coordinator to help create spaces of belonging for young athletes entering the sport of rowing.

    In her free time you can find her curled up with a book, exploring the PNW, or spending time with her family and friends.

  • Jon Campaña

    Director of Rowing Programs

    Jon Campaña was born and raised in Sarasota, FL and started rowing in college at the University of South Florida. He immediately fell in love with the sport and in 2011 found a high school coaching position as a novice coach.

    Since then, Jon has coached rowers of all ages and managed rowing programs in both Tampa and Sarasota.

    As the Director of Rowing Programs, Jon brings all programs of the George Pocock Rowing Foundation together to serve the mission of helping young people access and experience the life-changing sport of rowing.

    In his spare time, Jon enjoys being outside and active by the water, reading a good book, and nerding out on everything from the MCU, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings universes.

  • Padraic McGovern

    Director of Operations

    As the Director of Operations, Padraic is responsible for the safe, sustainable and successful operation of the Pocock Rowing Center and Renton Rowing Center. Padraic began rowing as a youth in Point Pleasant, NJ. After rowing at Saint Mary's College of California, he joined the Seattle rowing community as a sculler.

    Padraic has competed and coached in youth, collegiate, elite and masters programs. As the Executive Director of the Everett Rowing Association, his focus on culture and communication led significant growth in membership, youth programming and fundraising results. Padraic's experience in the construction industry and at Pocock Racing Shells brings a strategic background to our infrastructure and project management needs.

    Outside of the boathouse, Padraic enjoys hiking, biking, woodworking and cooking.

  • Derek de Leuw

    Lead Coach U19 Gold

    Derek first rowed as a junior at Sammamish Rowing Association in Redmond, WA. After rowing for a year at the University of Washington, Derek started his coaching career working with both Masters and high school athletes back at SRA. From there, Derek moved to the Assistant Coach position at Seattle Rowing Center, until moving with the organization to Santa Barbara County in California to help start up the new Mission Rowing Systems team on Lake Cachuma.

    Derek is now back in Seattle at Pocock, working as one of the Youth Coaches as well as the Facility and Equipment Coordinator for the boathouse.

  • Monica Firmani

    Lead Coach U19 Green

    As a Seattle native, Monica discovered her love of rowing as a junior athlete at Pocock. She then continued on to row all four years at Georgetown University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science with double majors in Marketing and Management.

    When she’s not coaching or rowing with the competitive women’s team, she likes to travel the PNW and beyond, taking selfie timer photos along the way.

  • James Nelson

    Lead Coach U17

    James Nelson, originally from Austin Texas began his rowing journey in 2006 at Austin Rowing Center.

    After Graduating from Franklin and Marshall, where he rowed 4 years, James took his rowing to the international stage competing in the 2018 World Rowing Championships where he placed 10th in the lightweight quad, and 7th in the lightweight pair at the following years World Rowing Championships. While training, he began coaching youth programs in Austin. His training and coaching led him to Santa Barbara where he began training for the Tokyo Olympics all while still fostering his passion for coaching. After a 4th place finish at the Olympic Trials James stepped away from training and began pursuing coaching full time. He accepted the position as Assistant Coach for Seattle Preps rowing team.

    Now he brings his expertise, leadership and passion for the sport and youth development as a Lead Coach for Pocock.

    When he is not on the water James enjoys olympic weight lifting, cycling, and spending time with his cat, Charlie.

  • Hannah Barton

    Lead Coach MS & LTR

    Hannah started rowing in the Philadelphia area in 2010 and rowed throughout high school and for four years at Wellesley College. She began coaching youth squads in 2017 at Chicago Training Center, with an emphasis on sports-based youth development and making rowing a more accessible opportunity for students across Chicago.

    Hannah also works as a Speech-Language Pathologist and is a PhD student in Speech & Hearing Sciences at UW. When she’s not thinking about language development and making up new words, she enjoys cooking, biking, and finding ways to annoy her cats.

  • Charlie Inman

    Youth Coach

    Charlie moved to Seattle from his home state of Massachusetts in 2019 and began coaching at Pocock shortly after. He rowed competitively for eight years, first in high school and then as a member of the MIT heavyweights. He still rows, just less competitively. As a member of the junior coaching staff, Charlie works mostly with developing athletes.

    When not at the boathouse, you can find him hiking around the PNW, cooking at home, and taking pictures of his dog.

  • Magda Vidal

    Youth Coach

    Magda began her rowing career as a competitive sculler on the east coast. Inspired by a persistent coach and conscientious community, Magda strives to create inclusive spaces in which everyone is challenged to bring their best. Her other interests include writing, science, and agriculture; she hopes in time to fuse these elements into a meaningful change-oriented profession.

    On a given day you might find her in a boat, on a bike, at the farmer’s market, or out climbing the Pacific Mountain Ranges.

  • Rob Foreman

    Youth Coach

    Rob has been a full time trainer and strength coach for the past 13 years. Inspired by his collegiate rowing coach he earned a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland. Early on in his training career a severe lower back injury forced Rob to reevaluate his own training regimen. He quickly began incorporating injury prevention and rehabilitative concepts into his strength workouts. Rob believes strength training helps maximizes performance and increases longevity in the sport.

    When Rob is not at Pocock he enjoys running, skiing, traveling, and cooking.

  • Alex Walter

    Youth Coach

    After growing up in Alaska, Alex first found rowing at Purdue University where he rowed sweep in both 8+ and 4+ boats. Several years later while living in Austin he discovered sculling in a recreational masters program as a complement to running. Alex then took a 20-year hiatus from active rowing to focus on a career in tech industry product management and team leadership. During this time, many hours were spent training for endurance cycling events and intermittently racing sailboats and spending time as a sailing instructor.

    After retiring from the tech industry, Alex reconnected with rowing at Purdue and rekindled an interest in developing teams which led him to PRC. Alex is a USRowing Level 2 Certified Coach. When not at the boathouse, you can find him in his woodshop designing and building furniture, sailing, and cycling.

  • Hilde Ringger

    Youth Coach

    Hilde started rowing half way through high school at Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center. After placing fifth at nationals in the womens pair, she was then recruited as a Division 1 Athlete at the University of San Diego. Here she earned a degree in Environmental and Ocean Sciences while also helping her team get much faster than previous years. Intermittently during her college rowing career she coached each summer at Mount Baker, gaining experience with coaching all suwads of all levels and age groups. After graduating from USD, Hilde thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and then started coaching the youth teams at Pocock. She will be doing Coral Reef Restoration and other marine ecology science research intermittently with coaching.

    Hilde is passionate about helping people realize what they are passionate about, environmental sustainability, anything with kinesthetic coordination, and having fun!

  • Maddy Cope

    Youth Coach

    Maddy entered the rowing world in 2013, when she first joined Olympia Area Rowing and began her coxing career. She then went on to cox for the Huskies at University of Washington where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, and a double minor in Classics and the History of War and Society. She now focuses her energy on helping the athletes at PRC develop their skills and continues to hone her own through her competitive sweep team at College Club.

    When Maddy isn't on the water, you can find her working at her other job, reading, or hiking with her roommate.

  • Daniel Ors

    Youth Coach

    Daniel started rowing in 2003 in Florida with Sarasota Scullers, rowing through high school and for Heavyweight and Lightweight crews at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. He began coaching for Sarasota Scullers in 2011 with an emphasis on small boat performance, programming team strength/conditioning, and preparing upperclassmen for the expectations of the collegiate level.

    Daniel also works in technology consulting as a Senior Software Developer and technical team lead, managing a distributed remote software engineering team for a public sector client initiative and other endeavors in the private sector.

    Among his other passions are trail running, skiing, pickleball, cooking up new concoctions in the wok/grill/oven, and pampering his two labrador rescue pups.
